Privacy policy
A plain-English summary, followed by the formal version.
The short version. OnTheBuck is a personal-finance app. We collect the minimum data needed to run it, we never sell your data, and you can export or delete everything at any time. Bank connections are read-only through Plaid, a regulated aggregator, and we never see your bank password.
1. What we collect
We collect three categories of data:
- Account data: your name, email, password hash, and language/currency preferences.
- Financial data: account balances, transactions, and any manual data you add. Only collected from sources you connect or enter yourself.
- Usage data: basic analytics (pages viewed, actions taken) so we can improve the product. We use first-party analytics; no third-party tracking.
2. How we use it
We use your data to operate OnTheBuck: to show your dashboard, run your budgets, generate insights, and email you about service changes. We do not use it to train AI models, sell ads, or share it with third parties for marketing.
3. Bank connections
If you connect a bank account, we use Plaid, a regulated open-banking aggregator, to fetch transactions. Plaid handles authentication, and we never see your bank credentials. Connections are read-only: nothing can be transferred or paid from OnTheBuck.
4. Where your data lives
Your data is stored encrypted at rest in [region]. We use [provider] as our cloud infrastructure provider. Access to production systems is limited to a small number of employees and audited.
5. Sharing
We share data with subprocessors strictly to deliver the service:
- Plaid: open-banking aggregator (bank connection)
- Cloud infrastructure provider (hosting)
- Email delivery service (transactional email)
- Payment processor (subscriptions)
We do not sell personal data. We do not share data with advertisers.
6. Your rights
You can:
- Export all your data to CSV at any time from Settings.
- Delete your account from Settings, and we permanently delete your data within 30 days.
- Request a copy of the data we hold by emailing privacy@onthebuck.com.
- Withdraw consent for analytics from Settings → Privacy.
7. Cookies
We use a small number of essential cookies for authentication and preferences, plus a first-party analytics cookie. We do not use advertising cookies.
